Forum Theatre and Seminar Event
NCAD BA Degree Show, Dublin
Developed out of a six month period of engagement with a community affected by a ‘regeneration programme’, Forum investigated representation, identity and the overt meaning of community under siege of redevelopment in an underprivileged Dublin area. This scaffolded ‘theatre’ provided a forum for participants and audience to gather, converse and witness a collection of video projects entitled ‘The Chamber Weaver Screen’ produced by the artist with local children, young people and adult members from the Regeneration Committee in the block.
This ‘industrial’ style theatre represented a public forum for the purposes of exhibiting a collection of video works entitled ‘The Chamber Weaver Screen’ produced by the artist with local children, young people and adult members from the Regeneration Committee in the block. The content of these videos were later discussed as part of an afternoon seminar hosted by the artist. Attendees represented stakeholders from a local, disadvantaged area undergoing a problematic process of urban regeneration, all of whom contributed to the production of the video works with local children and young people. The discussion centred on sustaining support and creativity for youth of the area.
